Inspiration
La Puerta Antigua takes its name from the idea at the heart of objects of sofia: that an object can be a door. We think of the Porta Alchemica in Rome — the 17th-century Alchemical Door, carved with symbols and half-secrets — and of every quiet threshold that once made us pause. Worked in gold and warm wood, this fan carries that feeling of a passage into another time: precious, a little mysterious, and meant to be opened slowly.
Know How
Each fan is made by hand by Spanish families who have folded fans for generations. The [wood] sticks are cut and shaped by hand, the [gold fabric] leaf hand-pleated and assembled to the frame with care. Because every piece is made slowly and by hand, small natural variations in tone and finish are part of its character — the quiet proof that a real person made it.
